Since the advent of social media platforms in the ninety’s, it’s been gaining popularity with people of all ages especially the youth. In addition, the recent developments in social media platforms provides children with unattended access to these services which can lead to possibly detrimental circumstances. Young people can be safeguarded by two simple steps taken by their parents. Parents should be watchful on their children’s online interactions and foster them more towards face-to-face conversations. First and foremost, parents should encourage their kids to talk about their day-to-day experiences, including what happened at school, what their fellow classmates said, and so on. So that children don’t need to seek refuge from a stranger online. Parents should keep an eye on their children’s online activity and monitor their friends list from time to time. Further, they can use child block and restrict children’s access to inappropriate sites, this will create a safe environment and reduce the risk of befriending a dangerous person. The poll results of a popular magazine states that children using online tools under parents’ supervision are 40% less likely to get caught in unsafe situations. In the second place, parents should nudge their kids towards outdoor activities. They should discuss with their children and aid them find an activity of their choice. Sports is an excellent way to encourage children engage in person conversations with kids of their age. It teaches them teamwork, builds leadership skills in addition to improving their physical health. A survey conducted by the Sports commission has concluded that children involved in at least one sport are more emotionally stable, outgoing and also academically successful.
