You should spend about 40 minutes on the question. These days, in many countries, fewer and fewer people want to become teachers, particularly in secondary schools. What are the reasons for this, and how could the problems be solved? v. 1 yYmnd
Nowadays, the number of young teachers, especially in secondary schools, is decreasing year by year; that tendency is stronger observed in countries where the educational system presents a low score. This essay will discuss some reasons why this happens and what we can do to solve this problem. The first reason is salary, some researches show that the low score in the educational system is related to low salaries for teachers; and consequently, without a good salary this career is no longer attractive for young talents. In Brazil, for instance, the annual income of young engineers can be five times higher than the same age teachers. To tackle this problem, the government should increase the salary of this professional and create some laws to guarantee a fair and attractive monetary condition for this career. Another reason observed in many countries is the lack of basic conditions at schools, such as material for teaching, access to school difficulties, and no security for the teachers. All these precarious conditions faced for years by teachers in many countries now is resulting in a lack of young professionals. It is natural that young people choose another career where they can find more investment and chances for development. This issue is a complex problem and the solution involves a structured long term effort of government, communities, students, and teachers in order to step by step identify the conditions, and take actions to change the situation. To sum up the low salary and lack of basic workplace conditions in many countries are the reasons why young students are no longer choosing teaching as a career. Unless the government and communities engage with a real commitment to change the situation providing better salaries and environment for these professionals, the situation of the schools tends to become worst and teachers will completely disappear.
