In many organizations, Uniforms plays a crucial role in its system, so requiring employees to wear it became an enormously controversial issue in this generation. Some individuals consider this trend as a positive one, while others claim the opposite. Although numerous benefits for this declaration exists, other inconveniences are still worth considering.
On the one hand, one key advantage for wearing uniform while working is equality. In other words, uniforms in literal sense means to be the same as employees should be seen the same in an organization irrespective of their social status. Moreover, it doesn’t matter if they are rich or poor while working for a company, everyone is treated just the same. As reported in a study conducted by Modul University in 2019, an array of employees, wearing the same uniform, performed superior work without judging others by their appearance which lead to healthier workplace. Hence, uniform brings people from all backgrounds onto one platform.
On the other hand, wearing work uniform has multiple disadvantages as it can obstruct work performance; this means, poorly designed work clothes can result in narrowing performance where it may cause difficulty for the employee since they discover that the uniform is shrinking their work output. Furthermore, work clothes plays a huge impact on employee’s health and well-being. To elucidate, when I used to work as a flight attendant, I was obliged to wear skirts and high heels all day long, but by the end of the day it caused me muscular pain, painful soles and cramped legs. Thus, organization should consider employee’s comfort as he is the one performing the duties the whole day.
To conclude, some organizations coerce employees to wear uniforms. However, this trend has multiple pros such as work equality, and a diversity of demerits namely the obstruction of work performance.
