Why should I be admitted 6ppJ3
I want to make education accessible for everybody. I’m certain that studying at university will help me achieve the mission. Why me? I have a certain mission, I can focus on one thing for a long time, and I know how to approach failures. I just pitched you. I did it because I see admitting students to the university as an investment in its community. Therefore, I want to show you that if you admit me you will get a positive return on investment. Main body: Mission. I consider the problem with the availability of education to be one of the most important issues which highly resonates with me. The problem formulates very easily: a lot of people don’t have access to quality education, because of a lack of resources. The resources here are money, belonging to a specific community, language, possessing special information, and so on. I can simply explain the importance of the issue: if more people have access to quality education, then more people have the opportunity to develop science, technologies, arts, and social studies, which automatically leads to improving people’s lives. Therefore, it’s a global and meaningful issue for humanity. I encountered that problem in the 6th grade when I wanted to learn programming via courses but couldn’t afford any of them. I was extremely angry and promised myself that when I grow up I will assist people who don’t have money for education. Fortunately, I was very lucky that my CS teacher agreed on teaching me outside of the class for free. I’ve grown up and kept that promise in mind. In the 11th grade, I initiated a project called Young Edu, a free programming course for children who can’t afford programming courses. I’ve pitched principals of 40 different public schools and only 2 of them accepted my offer. Then, I had a speech in two schools and enrolled 24 students what is the limit of 2 computer classes. I taught 24 students and I’ve received an enormous amount of gratefulness. I’ve seen children who are truly passionate about this course and who remind me of myself in 6th grade. That gives me a lot of power to keep taking actions. Currently, I’m scaling this project and transitioning to the online format, allowing the project to be more global. Focus. I’ve proved that I have the ability to work focused and hard with my Competitive Programming story. I have been practicing Competitive Programming since the end of 6th grade and it cost me prioritizing extracurriculars and dedicating all my free time to Competitive Programming. Defeats. The integral thing in achieving success is an attitude to failures. When real investors discover investment they always look at the counter of the founder’s big setbacks. Thus, I have one immense failure - my defeat on National Olympiad in 10th grade. Everybody expected me to get in the top 5 but I placed 35th. It was an extremely tough and depressive time which caused a period of self-reflection. However, I’ve got through this failure with such a mindset: “I don’t know how exactly the path to my goal will look like, but I know that I get to take actions which bring me closer to the goal and use failures as feedback, learn from them but not being scared”. So, after it, I started training this mindset, by challenges that included a lot of rejections. I tried to get about 150 girls’ numbers on the street, I tried to go to strangers' flats advertising people Young Edu, I attempted to advertise Young Edu to strangers on the street, and the most difficult - I pitched 40 principals. All these experiences included many declines which brought pain, but it’s a precious life experience that changed my attitude to rejections. Conclusion: Overall, I do strongly believe that the university will give me the opportunities to explore the ways of implementing my mission.
