the University of Groningen should use English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) for all of its courses

Bringing EMI for all courses at the University of Groningen will improve student learning as it hosts more than 8, 000 international students, according to the data. To begin with, the fact that some courses are taught in Dutch causes these students not to be able to enrol in some of the courses they desire, which unfavourably affects their learning. If they have to take a course they don't want to centre on, it can discourage them and lead them to failure. In addition, if they cannot take a course that they consider as important for their career, they may experience shortfalls in their careers. At the same time, although English is not the official language of the Netherlands, majority of Dutch people are fully skilled at understanding and speaking it. Therefore, with the advantage of having a quality education system and background, the English level of Dutch students is considerably high. In this way, they are able to participate and comprehend classes where the medium of instruction is English. Moreover, from the perspective of international students, a remarkable amount of them face with loneliness. This situation is not an act of exclusion, however, part of them state that breaking the ice between themselves and other Dutch friend groups is compelling. Additionally, it is a natural right for Dutch students to prefer to speak and communicate in their mother tongue. However, adopting EMI for all courses might increase the integration for non-Dutch students, together with academicians. Thus, alienation can be diminished, and these two general groups of students can be acquainted with each other and their cultures better within the framework of a common language. Consequently, given the number of non-local students at schools with an international atmosphere, such as the University of Groningen, the utilisation of this method in all courses is paramount because it can provide convenience for foreign students in the fields of academia and career, as well as strengthen the ties between local students and internationals.
