The table compared the percentages of various necessities used in British households between 1972 and 1983. In the beginning, television was the durable owned by the most British residents, 93%, as opposed to the central heating, the least used with 37%. Although rises was seen in the proportions of all facilities existing throughout the first 7-year period, television and vacuum cleaner experienced slight increases only. In 1978, dishwasher started to be used in the country, accounted for 3% of the British houses, the lowest figure. Similarly, over the remaining of the survey, each of the needs was seen to grow slightly; however, dishwasher still ranked the lowest with 5% in 1983. The proportion of television in the Britain remained almost stable, ended the peak of 98%, the highest among different necessities. Although the steady rise in the figure for vacuum cleaner, it was stopped being used in 1983 with the invention of video, accounting for 18%. Overall, the proportions of all facilities were recorded to increase noticeably, and there were two new inventions of video and dishwasher over the period surveyed.
