The table depicts the amount of working male and female population and total factories in England and Wales between the years 1851 - 1901.
Overall, as the years progressed, the number of working people working decreased significantly while the number of factories increased. There was a major dip in total number of employees after the factories almost doubled in number.
During the first decade we observe that even though only two factories were made, there was a huge fall in the working people, almost by half (477100-291780) where more than 100k male people left and only 30k females. The following decade marks a dramatic increase in factories to 622 and a sharp shortage of workers, dropping to almost 50% of the previous decade which resulted in just 10% of the initial female workers.
In the following two decades (1881-1901) there was a slow decrease in the number of factories, more than a hundered closed off; still there was a constant fall in the total number of employees and by the end of 1901, only 10% of the initial working force remained, about 61000 workers with almost equal amounts of men and women.
