The prevalence of smartphones and social media apps enables the general public to have more access to celebrities’ lifestyles, and thus we can easily see the posh cars and expensive houses which we may not be able to afford in our entire lives. I agree that taking this living standard as an example can do great harm to people who lack judgment, in many cases, young people. Firstly, it is normal for ordinary people to envy the rich. If the gap between the rich and the poor is too large, the crime rate is highly likely to increase. Young people who can not make ends meet might commit crimes and end up in prison. Therefore, young people may fall victim to their jealousy. In addition, taking other people’s standard of living as the norm is also dangerous to one’s finance. In my country, many college students and new graduates are fascinated by luxury goods. Reinforced by consumerism, they may turn to exorbitant usury or installment charging high-interest rates. If they can not repay the loan, the financial institutions will file a report in their credit reference system. The consequences will emerge when people are finding a job, applying for a mortgage, and many other aspects. Therefore, despite celebrities’ frequent exposure on TV and social media, teachers, government and parents should let youngsters know that celebrities are only a small fraction of the population. Moreover, many celebrities sacrificed their time and privacy for their position. Society should guide young people to see more of the achievements that famous people reached than the money they made.
