Nowadays, it is widely argued among people that should students in school merely focus on academic study. I personally agree that not only teenagers should improve their academic achievements but also develop their ability to distinguish right from wrong. On the one hand, acquiring knowledge from different subjects such as literature and mathematics is vitally important. As we all know, school students today have had a tight timetable for traditional curriculums, it is unrealistic to add extra courses to their school schedules. Besides, students must devote themselves to these academic classes if they are keen to achieve excellent school performance, acquire satisfying career prospects, and even become an expert in a certain industry in the future. For example, to become a programmer and get a decent job in top companies like Google and Apple, graduates are usually expected to show interviewers that they master professional skills and qualifications relating to mathematics and coding. On the other hand, except for the academic tasks, it is also necessary to teach young people the ability to discriminate between acceptable and unacceptable. To achieve this goal, a well-rounded education system aiming to enhance students’ physical performance, mental and psychological health should be introduced to schools and teachers. What’s more, interpersonal communication skills should be emphasized in classes by teachers, which benefits students from organizing and finishing teamwork easier with more efficiency. To be more specific, well-organized volunteer work in local communities or internship experience in companies can help to arise students’ awareness about the importance of collaboration with their partners and colleagues. In conclusion, while academic achievements benefit students from being successful in their careers, the ability to realize and practice social norms should not be ignored in school classes.
