Many people hold the view that the annual disappearance of numerous languages does not matter since communication will be more effective with fewer languages. This essay will analyze both sides of the issue and give my opinion. On the one hand, there is no denying that it is very beneficial for people to know how to use common languages besides their mother tongue. The first reason is that picking up new languages helps to acquire the cultural value of their origin countries. Moreover, living in different cultures makes individuals find it easy to identify with life events, so their abilities to understand and share with each other become better. As a result, people will have more good relationships in their life. Another reason is that people will sample the local life completely when they travel abroad without the language barrier. It is because the language helps to bring tourists closer to the activities and the culture of the destination. For example, English has become the global lingua franca, which means we all should know the language if we want to be universal citizens. On top of that, being fluent in widespread languages definitely opens up higher levels of employment for individuals. Consequently, more people are employed and able to support themselves as well as raise their families. Clearly, there is a myriad of advantages when it comes to comprehending predominant languages. On the other hand, despite the dominance of widely spoken languages, minority languages are indispensable because they represent the significant cultures of the social group speaking them. The uncountable number of languages that have existed shows the uniqueness of the world's civilizations. Certainly, a society with fewer languages will lead to the loss of many cultures and traditions in the near future. Although some languages are only used by several people, they still play an important role in the development of humans. The reason is that the cultures and traditions of one's race can only be well-learned through its own language. For instance, many traditional myths are written or documented in minority languages. Apparently, their cultures will also be forgotten if their languages die out. Thus, I believe that different languages all over the globe have their own values, so they should be inherited and developed by the next generation. In conclusion, even though commonly spoken languages might make life more straightforward, this should not be at the expense of less prevalent languages in order to preserve national cultures.
