It is sometimes argued that schools are unnecessary nowadays because of the easy access to information online. In my opinion, schools play a much more influential role in children's lives than we can possibly imagine. Obviously, young children can not study on their own. Even there is a massive amount of information online, they can not distinguish right or wrong. Most parents have their own job. Thus, they do not have the time or ability to teach their kids. Education should be handled by professional teachers. Moreover, university entrance exams are still a vital means for admission in many countries; domestic education or self-teaching can offer little help. For example, there was a father in China who did not believe in school education and taught his daughter himself for over a decade, but the girl never had the chance to college. On the other hand, school education is not only about knowledge but also social skills, physical exercise, moral education et al. Children have to know how to communicate with others, and that is impossible to learn online. It is only realistic if children interact with other people. Also, children need to do team sports in order to learn about teamwork, and schools make this happen. Furthermore, a school is a place for values to share.
