In the last two years, a catastrophic pandemic combined with technological advances has changed how people with white collar-jobs work. Software like Microsoft Teams or Google Workspace, combined with a laptop and high-speed Internet connection, have made the magic, and consequently, a significant part of the workforce may work from their homes. This essay will explain why I believe that our economic system might consolidate this change.
Firstly, it may be said that remote job reduces productivity due to technical difficulties in controlling workers' activity. Contrarily recent reports suggest that when a job has a clear goals description, teleworking improves efficiency. Every digital action is monitored, and workers' supervision is even higher than ever. Ai systems can help organize, share, and distribute working time from home.
Secondly, remote work may help to solve several challenges that modern cities face. The population in cities is predicted to rise by more than 20 per cent in the next 10 years. Imagine the impact of pollution and over-consumption of resources (like water or land). This trend could be easily counteracted by working from home.
To conclude, I believe that remote work conceivably will be adopted by most the companies in the following years. Therefore, people will enjoy a more human lifestyle, companies will increase their profits and the environment will be more sustainable.
