Rare diseases in the Middle East

Nowadays, the spotlight is only shone on the well-known diseases, the diseases that frequently affect our community. This shows that many individuals lack the knowledge of more uncommon diseases as well as ways to deal and treat them if they manage to occur. To begin, a rare disease, often known as an orphan disease, is a condition that affects only a small percentage of the population. It is known as an orphan disease because of the Orphan Drug Act, which was initiated when those in charge of developing medications believed that certain diseases' treatment should not be prioritized as only a small number of individuals are prone to being affected by them. This includes diseases like "Tourette Syndrome, " a neurological system disorder that causes a person to have little to no control over their body's actions, such as motions or sounds, which are referred to as "tics. " Many rare diseases, such as Thalassaemia, can be found in the Middle East. Thalassaemia is a genetic disorder in which a person's red blood cells lack hemoglobin. Red blood cells use these particles to transport oxygen throughout the body. Anemia, or perhaps a deficiency of iron, is a consequence of this condition. Furthermore, the Niemann-Pick disease, a genetically inherited disease, is another rare condition that is common in the Middle East. It interferes with the body's capacity to breakdown fat within cells, causing these cells to deteriorate and die over time. The brain, nerves, and bone marrow, which is the sponge-like tissue present in our bones, are all affected by this condition. In severe cases, this disease also affects the lungs. Because the condition has not yet affected enough people, there is no cure. However, treatment focuses on helping patients to live while dealing with these difficulties. People who frequently trip or fall dismiss it as "clumsiness. " However, many people fail to recognize that this could be one of the symptoms of Charcot Marie Tooth Disease. Although the disease's name may seem self-explanatory, it actually affects the arms and legs. The Charcot Marie Tooth Disease is a condition that leads to nerve damage. This damage primarily affects peripheral nerves, which are found in the arms and legs. This disease causes patients to gradually lose sensation in their muscles, as well as their muscles weakening over time, making it difficult for them to move normally. Our responsibility as neurotypical healthy people is to make these people's lives easier, which we can do by raising awareness about the diseases mentioned previously and many others, as well as obtaining and learning more about the topic itself. By doing so, we are creating an environment that welcomes people affected by these diseases and allows them to feel natural.
