Nowadays schools should not use textbooks because children get bored with books. Using games, computers and TV is a better way to give them new information and knowledge. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

The jury is still out on the question of best means for educating the younger generation. It has been argued that utilising electronic sources will be more efficient in terms of children’s perception of course materials. This essay will explain why this approach should be undertaken for methodological and relevance reasons. Looking at the issue from a methodological perspective, a fruitful way for young pupils to learn is through entertainment. According to developmental psychologists, based on the psychological and physiological peculiarities of this age the dominant form of getting familiar with the outer world happens via play. Thus, it is educational games and electronic devices that help teachers convey information entertainingly. For example, in the majority of schools in Finland, which is ranked one of the best countries in terms of quality of education, teachers do not apply textbooks during classes taking advantage of modern technologies. With regards to textbooks, modern technologies altogether with entertaining activities bring up-to-date education into classrooms. As for compiling printed textbooks, it is a time-consuming process including a variety of steps. That means that by the time a textbook comes out, it may no longer meet the demands of not only the educational system, but modern children’s preferences as well. But for electronic resources, their production does not require such continuous actions. As a result, primary school pupils are able to acquire knowledge from cutting-edge sources. For instance, for educational purposes an English TV-show was designed in Russia giving its young learners an opportunity to learn the language with cartoon characters. To summarise, implementing such means as games, computers and TV is a viable option for making the process of education more enjoyable for children. Moving forward, the more schools switch to using electronic appliances the more pupils start liking studying as it coincides with the needs and relevance of their age.
