Prohibition of smoking has always been a controversial issue in the society. In my opinion, considering the benefits of zero smoking community, it should be forbidden. The primary reason for suggesting smoking inhibition is due to its deleterious effect on a person’s health. Repercussions of smoking are evident in our community. The prevalence of disease such as cancer, respiratory problems and cardiovascular diseases are higher in smokers than teetotallers. To exemplify, WHO’s cancer study reports revealed that smoking is the major contributing factor of lung cancer all around the world. Moreover, smokers are not only risking their own health but also the community’s in form of passive smoke. Another reason for forbidding smoking owing to the financial and social implications. Smokers often spend a generous amount of money from their income in buying such products and if they deprived of their source of income they may direct to antisocial activity, which will put the society under threat. The increased sale of products such as cigarettes even after imposing huge taxes reflects the spending pattern of people. Moreover, evidences suggest that smokers are more prone to deviate to other substance abuse to increase their pleasure in smoking. However, there are people who believe, eliminating smoking from the society indirectly impact the development of the society as this practice will cut off the government’s source of income derived from its taxes. By contrast, I think the money derived from such products would be spent on its own consequences. In summary, smoking creates health, financial and social repercussions in the society. So it should be banned.
