Ancient buildings are undoubtedly a significant part of our national memory and protected by law mostly to protect our history. However, some people believe they should be destroyed and knocked down to increase spaces for new ones. In my opinion old buildings play a crucial role in linking people of a country and keeping them safe is not equivalent to stopping modernization. It is important to maintain old buildings for many reasons. To begin with, they are beautiful and instructors particularly for architects and those who are studying Architecture. By reviewing the structures, materials and foundations of ancient buildings, engineers will be able to recognize our ancestors' methods of building and their tools. Secondly, nowadays old buildings are a necessary part of the tourism industry. Many people travel around the world to see antiquities from different traditional cultures living many years ago. For example, every year numerous tourists travel to Shiraz, a city in Fars province, to visit Pasargad, the palace of the great Cyrus. However, this certainly does not mean that modernization should be discouraged. Old buildings can be protected in parallel with progress. For example, we are witnessing many historic buildings renewed whilst maintaining their old character and being used for modern purposes like theater scenes and hustles. Also, there is no doubt that by studying and learning about history, we understand the world we are living in, and it helps us to build a better future. To sum up, old historic buildings are inseparable from our lives because they are directly linked to our nation's history. However, protecting traditional buildings by law is important, it should not be an obstacle for modernization and progress.
