International entertainers, including sports personalities, often get paid millions of dollars in one year. In your view, with widespread poverty in the world, are these huge earnings justified? mDN6r
These days, international entertainers, such as professional sport players, receive a salary of millions of dollars every year. Obviously, considering that the poverty is largely spread in many areas of the world, this makes people wonder whether this large amount of money is justified or not. Firstly, these entertainers are generally so famous that they become public personalities, therefore I believe that in light of their visibility they attract the attention of a number of people and sponsors which bring more money. For that reason, I argue that these huge earnings are more a matter of visibility and of the possibility for a company to promote its products than of responsibilities related to their job. To prove this idea we can consider one of the most famous football player as an example, Cristiano Ronaldo. He is one of the best at his job but, although it salary from football is huge, he makes most of his money from sponsor, such as Nike. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo represents a significant financial source also for football club which increases the sales of his t-shirts and tickets for the match, because everyone wants to watch him play. However, considering the widespread poverty around the world these salaries are definitely too high. Even though these people are famous and give visibility to companies, I believe that is quite unethical paying such amount of money to a single person when billions of people are struggling to make it until the end of the day. I would rather justify this situation if a part of their salary was donated to charity, but most of them seem not to be concerned about this problem. To conclude, I think that today the world of entertainment has become bigger and it involves a large amount of money. However, I would consider more ethical to at least fix a percentage of these huge earnings and give it directly to those organisations which fight against poverty.
