In some countries, small town center shops are going out of business because people tend to drive to large out-of-town stores. As a result, people without cars have limited access to out-of-town stores, and it may result in an increase in the use of cars. Do you think the advantages of this change outweigh its advantages?

Nowadays an increasing number of people are tending to shop at large stores that are located out of towns rather than small shops in the town centre. Consequently, more and more smaller stores are forced to shut down and also people who don't own a car have gotten into trouble for accessing to out-of-town shops. Although there are few benefits I think the disadvantages are much more considerable. In the forthcoming paragraphs I will explain some benefits and demerits of this phenomena.
To begin with, smaller stores which are located in town centre are threatened with closure, due to the fact that their previous customers now tend to shop at large multi-purpose shops out of the town. To put it differently, it will damage the economy of nation in long-term. In addition, people who are not in possession a car are put to great inconvenience because most of shops in town centre are closed and they are forced to go to the marginal area to buy their needs. It wastes a large quantity of their money and time which could be used for much more beneficial activities. Another predicament is that increasing car usage will enhance the pollution emitted from cars and make the air more and more unhealthy.
On the other hand, however, constructing large shopping malls out of the city may draw the population out of the cities. That is to say, people may be encouraged to accommodate in such marginal areas which is near shopping centres. Subsequently the problem of population congestion in cities may be solved to some extent.
To conclude, although constructing large shopping centres out of cities may draw people's attention to accommodate there and this will reduce the demand for housing inside the cities, the drawbacks of this phenomena such as air pollution, wasting time and money and economical damage to local small shops will absolutely outweigh the disadvantages.
