Economic progress vs other types of progresses

Whether economic progress is the most important goal of a country or not is subject to debate. While some people believe that the most important goal of a country is economic progress, others defend that other types of progress are equally important. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument and give an opinion thereof. The idea that economic progress should be the main goal of a country is backed up by many people. The living standards of the population depend directly on the economic situation of a country, therefore, economic growth is a weapon against poverty and might be useful to give the population a better quality of life. If governments allow and give assistance so that now businesses can arise and older businesses can grow, more people will be hired and less people will be in poverty. This is why some people support economic growth as the main issue countries should work for. On the other hand, different types of progress are believed to be as important as economic growth. We can not forget about health and education for example, which are essential for our well being. Even if the economy was rising sharply, without good health and education people would see no progress in their life nor in society. That is why although economic growth is essential, some individuals don’t want other issues such as education, health or even infrastructure to be missed. In my opinion, I firmly stand with the idea that other kind of progresses should be taken into account, because money means nothing when people can not receive good healthcare and children grow ignorant.
