The physical and social problems resulted by the growing population in the city have made it harder for people when choosing such areas to settle down. It is believed that people are less likely to reside in urban areas than ever before. However, I completely disagree with this statement because cities offer better opportunities and the advantages that are absent in the countryside.
Firstly, urban areas offer more convenient public transportation systems. For example, Taipei has 6 subway lines and however, a rural place such as Taiwan has only a few forms of public transportation operating. As a result, it saves times and energy for residents living in the cities and also, they may spend less time commuting to other places such as their workplaces and schools. Additionally, cities have more advanced medical services and facilities compared to the countryside, which means that city residents can immediately get medical treatment if they get sick or hurt. For instance, nowadays patients who are suffering from severe health problems like cancer and orthopedics travel to the United State to get better treatments.
Needless to say, cities provide higher quality education and job opportunities. Because of the conveniences of living in urban area, most universities and corporations are located in cities rather than the countryside. For example, students across the world choose to study in London for more advanced education. Furthermore, job opportunities in the countryside are fewer and less diverse, and some of them, especially part time ranch jobs, often require labor work and only allow workers to receive low income. As a result, people from rural areas move to cities in search of jobs.
In conclusion, despite the disadvantages that the increasing numbers of urban residents brings about, I strongly believe that a majority of people still opt to reside in the metropolitan for pursuing careers and education purposes.
