Difference beetween noth and south of Italy.

Nowadays the south of Italy is generally less advanced than the north of Italy in almost all fields, such as the economic prosperity, the efficency of the public services and infrastructures. This problem comes from historical reasons and is called “Meridional Issue”. The north and the south had been divided until the 1861 when the Kingdom of two Sicilie fell. The Kingdom of two Sicilie was, more or less, the current south of Italy. In synthesis, before the 1861 the south was a unique body, indipendent from the other part of Italy and the other part was also divided in several parts. Therefore, the absence of a common history is the main reason for which the north and the south are different from each others. After the fallen of the Kingdom of two Sicilie, the new King faced a kind of civil war beween the those that wanted the old Kingdom and the armed force of the New Kingdom. During this fights a high, but undefinite, number of meridionals lost their life, that has created a deep hurt at the new coming society. Furthermore, the new King used a repressive policy against the meridional citizens, in fact in that period appeared, as the first time in the history, the tendency to emigrate from the south of Italy to other coutries, such as the north and the south of America. During the period between the two cenuties in Europe there was a strong industrial pulse, but the society in the south was too instable to absorb it, rather the instability made easier the growth of illegal and criminal organization. Today this criminal organization, called Mafia and Camorra, still exists, of course this organizations are a huge limitation for the prosperity of the whole Nation. In matter of fact, it seems the criminal organizations get a kind of benefits in this heterogenous conditions along the Country. In conclusion, the complexity of the problem is high and multidimensional, the main reason is linked to historical fact and a wrong process of integration. In the first half of the 20th century Mazzini cited “We have done the Italy, but now we must do the Italians”, probably something went wrong, but now the problem, which is maybe composed of many factors, is a political problem and a hard challenge for the Italian Government.
