Creative artists should always be given freedom to express their own ideas (in words, pictures, music or films) in whichever way they wish. There should be no government restrictions on what they do. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Art dies when it needs an explanation. This statement is apt for the creative artists who are ought to explain their art. In order to get a reflection of the society, art needs to be in its real essence. Hence, I strongly believe that creative artists should be given wings to showcase their own ideas with the interference of the government.
Recently, in India, the government has issued rules and regulations regarding censorship of foul language in the movies released on OTT platforms such as Netflix, Prime, Sony Liv etc. According to the censorship authorities, this step has been taken to protect the minds of the younger generation. However, the art of movies depend on the dialogues and the language. For example, if an actor is playing the character of a typical Indian Man who tends to get frustrated in a heavy traffic, it is obvious that out of anger he is going to speak in a foul language. These little details will take away the true essence of films.
In the times when India was under British rule, Indian society was divided in different castes. Moreover, there were heavy restrictions on women as well. Raja Ravi Verma, an Indian painter was dragged in the court as he painted nude women. Verma believed that the female body is a piece of art and for an artist to ignore it was not possible. Now that we see his paintings, we come to know that he tried to show a mirror to the society. All his canvases depicted the beauty in real bodies. Society then and now has created an image of a perfect body for women. But Raja Ravi Verma had the guts to express his viewpoint through paintings. If he wasn’t restricted to modest forms of art then I think the preconceived notion about women’s body would never have prevailed.
To conclude, there is no ‘must’ in art because art is ‘free. ’ Every creative artist should have this freedom and should be able to express feelings freely through his art.
