Brutality has always been expressed as a natural human behavior. Whenever we find an entity that threatens our state of comfort, the destruction of it is inevitable. Without any hesitation. A basic, superb primitive kit of survival that seems to terrorize our community. Over time, we have learned to suppress such conduct. Nevertheless, It is unlikely to abolished completely, remaining a phase of straw-dwelling being faced by a hurricane. The state is not the one that changes society. Society itself, inspired by altruistic and diplomatic practices, create the means to promote the well-being of humanity and its own welfare. In my own flesh, I want to present a reflection of the constant doubt in humanity linked to our actions that seems to lose it.
On April 28th of the past year, the Sebastián Belalcazar monument was overthrown.
This emblematic symbol represents the foundation of my birth city, Cali. And as part of the social events that were stalking Colombia at the moment, it couldn't be ignored. The reason was simple, to proclaim the memory of chief Petecuy, who fought against the Spanish crown, leading his legacy for the descendants of the tribe Misak to continue standing against a criminal government system that does not respect their rights. Centuries of resentment, awaiting the chance to be heard and considered. I try to get into natives' shoes, manifesting their unconformities about the national policies. But, at the same time, it raises one main question: How far do we need to go previously being heard? Weekly, new cases of charges and pending investigations come to light, and this has increased to a point that numerous Colombians preferred to avoid them, which is the primary error. The reason for the protests was a fiscal adjustment proposed by President Duque, which brought further complications related to the suffocated economy. People were tired of such injustices that they decided to make a change on their own. . . And that's when the fire began.
Without control, I finally realized how critical morality is to someone who has been
over-pressed. Around 12 days of mobilizations against the right-wing government, the
Institute for Peace Studies (Indepaz) reported that 47 people passed away, 963 arbitrary detentions, 12 cases of sexual rampage, and at least 548 missing persons. Ruffians against protestors, police officers against ruffians, people against officers. There is no end to the wheel, and the government merely observes it. “This merely happens in Colombia” or “Colombia is Colombia” are lemmas that completely advocate (even by memes) the adverse connotations of our nation, by trying to justify the violent events to take place in our territory. Blinding us to the fact that this conflict transcends demographic barriers and is the responsibility of the entire international community. Several attempts were made to contain the situation, on the contrary in generalthey all failed. Military forces used their power to subjugate the protestors, imposing their will. Ignoring the values and the meaning of mankind by disregarding the lives of the population. The lack of mercy creates anger and vandalism, turning this a daily event in the salsa capital of the world. The happiest country title is no longer available.
My life, like a plethora of other teenagers, changed to basic survival. Constantly exposed to the fear of losing our lives if we were at the incorrect time or place. The insecurity of the day gave way to terror at night. Screams, gunshots, ambulances, police cars… Explosions. A whole symphony that tunes the same chaos. Violent conflict cannot be ignored with a band-aid of optimism, in light of the fact that when it yields to its weakness a Colombia bleeding will be noticeable.
The disturbances led to the deaths of several youths. Politics has the potential to change their future, and they were among the firsts to confront the issue. A close friend of mine, distressed about the crisis… called me. Fearful, she hid in a locked room waiting for the shooting to stop. Her sobs were accompanied by the words "we need to get out of here", which frightened me to this moment. The next morning, a number of videos about the attack were leaked. It was the distraught screams of a mother as she observed the inert corpse of her son, wounded from an armed confrontation. Mother's love and her deep agony for the soul of her child, victim of a stray bullet. Once again we emphasize our fragility as human beings, the real monsters. society devours itself.
If my future depends on submission to the irrational mandates of the authorities, my life to the state order, and my success to political, social, mental, and emotional control… We would definitely return to prosaic eras like the Holocaust. The millions of deaths after the great war were decisive in creating mechanisms that ensure and preserve our rights as individuals, and such a breakthrough must never be forgotten. frequently, suffering makes us aware of the horrors surrounding. However, what terrifies the most is the act of becoming public. The mechanisms of communication or disclosure are the bishops of this chess, those capable of forcing the beast to contract its claws once again.
Colombia can be reborn from ashes. The natural resources and geographic location
demonstrate a huge value. It is essential to inspire new generations through leadership
programs that allow the youth to take action. Eventually, when the time comes to represent the whole nation, they will be able to restore the broken cycle.
Violence is unjustifiable. There is always a better and less painful way to get things done. It depends on how much noise you make and for how long until your voice is finally heard. The domino effect will gradually lead to results as your ideas inspire others. Words have the potential to be our most powerful weapon, and it is our responsibility to use them properly.
History is certainly littered with wars, conflicts, and seemingly endless disturbance. Although we are creatures that possess a learning capacity, it is imperative to prevent primitive attitudes from arising. What is created with violence is maintained by actions that resort to the same violent behavior. The origin of any hostile confrontation stems from fear, in recognizing the weakness to immobilize the other. To eradicate the enemy before he finishes us. An extreme ideology that will achieve a nation where only the murderers thrive. The clock keeps running. What are you waiting for? . . . Speak Up.
