Childhood obesity is now becoming a global health epidemic at a rapid rate. It is a major issue in Australia, where almost 33% of the children are overweight. Some people think that schools should be directly responsible for overseeing their eating habits and health. This essay will discuss why I ardently agree with this point of view.
To begin with, schooling system should also be held accountable for monitoring the dietary pattern and exercise plan of their disciples, besides academia, as they spend about 25% of their day there. For instance, the school’s canteen should offer healthier options for lunch and omit any junk and sugary food from their menu. Keeping this in mind, Australian schools should be stringent in devising proper meal plans to teach healthier lifestyle choices to their pupils.
Furthermore, students look up to their teachers as parental figures. They have a similar part to offer in their brought up, as parents do. So, they can properly teach the harmful effects of putting on too much weight. Also, they can make pupils participate in regular physical training. Hence, the teaching staff can play a crucial role to bring about a healthier change.
To recapitulate, this essay explained why Australian schools must cater to the need of managing the food intake and bodily fitness of their students. I completely agree that primary education department of Australian government must combat problem of childhood obesity strictly, because schools especially the teachers and canteens, can have a direct contribution in tackling this situation.
