In charge of a navigational watch. Ensure safe navigation by using navigational AIDS.
Check vessel position frequently by using navigational equipment, charts, and maps and updating the GPS position log book at a regular interval.
Take part in testing; together with 2nd officer test all navigational equipment e. g. Steering gear, Gyro compass, Engine Telegraph, Echo Sounder, Radar, GPS, AIS, SSB, INMARSAT, VHF/HF DSC, Course recorder, etc. at least one hour before shifting berth or leaving port. The result of the test shall be logged and the Master to be informed accordingly
Assist the chief officer in the efficient maintenance and upkeep of the lifesaving and fire-fighting appliances and equipment. By instituting regular testing and recording program in LSA and FFA log book and ensuring that all types of equipment are kept in a constant state of readiness.
In charge of sounding machine and all flags and responsible for all navigation lights and all other signal lights and shapes including signal lamps and equipment and maintain all fog signalling equipment, distress pyrotechnics, and line throwing apparatus.
Share the duties and responsibilities of the safety officer as instructed by the safety officer.
During breathing / unbreathing and under pilotage check vessel position frequently by navigation means and visually and assist the master for the safety of navigation.
Follow company policy and guidelines strictly, especially for vessels proceeding through to canal, river, or confined water or passing restricted water for the safety of navigation
Assist chief officer with safe and efficient operation during loading and unloading cargo.
Update vessel deck log book after watching regarding vessel progress, weather and sea condition, cargo operation activity, and other general information.
Update cargo log book in every watch regarding the progress of loading and discharging operation and crew activity.
Strictly follow ISPS Code, master, and the chief officer standing order.
