This is due to the fact that by punishing a killer we do not deter others from committing a crime and each individual has the inherent right to live their life. For instance, it is illegal to incite a person to commit suicide in many countries and there is even a punishment for that. Based on the law, there should be no interference in the death of human beings. Thus, by entitling them to live, they are given a chance to see their family again.
