Britain got wrong on Covid

Britain got wrong on Covid DaaDA
Mark Woolhouse- an expert on infectious diseases remarked that at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Britain made a mistake in considering this virus for nondiscrimination because in fact, some people are much more at risk from it than others. People over 75 are 10, 000 times more at risk than those under 15. The failure to understand the wide variations in individual responses to Covid-19 resulted in Britain's moral error and significant damage, including a long-term national lockdown. He also argued that the British government panicked and made things worse when faced with a once-in-a-century emergency. They harmed children and young adults by robbing their education, jobs, and normal lives, as well as harming their future chances, while leaving them to inherit a record-breaking mountain of government debt. Rather than enforcing blanket lockdowns across the country, Woolhouse believed the government should have adopted measures designed to make contacts safe. According to the expert, largely voluntary behaviour change worked in Sweden and it should have been allowed to continue in the UK. Instead, the government chose to impose a national lockdown- the “lazy solution” to the damaging epidemic because they could. This would lead to the lack of a convincing plan to protect the vulnerable people and would likely trigger a larger pandemic. Woolhouse calculated that over 30, 000 people died of Covid-19 in Britain's care homes and each home should have received an extra £250, 000 from the government to protect against the virus. Particularly, Woolhouse disdained the neglect of "shielders, " such as care home workers and informal carers. He was emphatic that Britain should have invested in both suppression and protection, and that lockdowns will not be effective in dealing with future Covid-19 waves. Instead, the country needed better planning and preparation for when the next variant arrives, as it surely will.
