As computers translate quickly and accurately, learning foreign languages is a waste of time. To what extent do you agree?

In today's globalized world, more and more translation equipment is being created that can easily translate all languages spoken around the globe. Although some argue that spending time on other pursuits is better than learning languages, I believe that investing time to become fluent in multiple languages is truly the best way to understand them. First and foremost, people should recognize the fact that computer translation is a tool that cannot replace the real person. This is because when people spend time learning languages, they can interpret ideas, sentences naturally and not rigid like translation by AI. Thus, sometimes, computers translate quickly but not accurately in various situations, and turn the situations into a comedy and awkward among people. For instance, in English, two words that are pronounced similarly are flower and flour, so it can be mistaken if users don't check again. Therefore, translation tools are being used in simple situations such as asking for directions. In addition, there are various benefits the learning languages bring for people. Firstly, people can gain knowledge and vocabulary from other tongues that they can use in their work or daily activities, such as understanding English advertisements on TV. Secondly, languages play a significant role in creating opportunities and chances for people to work and live abroad. For example, if an individual possesses two or more languages, they can have a scholarship to study and live in foreign countries. Finally, when people really master languages, they can discover the mistakes of translation and have experiences to avoid using them. In conclusion, although translation tools have many positive impacts on people’s lives due to their convenience and quickness, I strongly disagree with the trend that can replace real languages in communication.
