An Unpopular game or sport that needs contemporary recognition 1mpAL
Sport plays an vital role in students as it develops the physical and mental health of the child. Games keep our physical and mental health stable. For years, sports have brought people together all around the world. Basketball, football, cricket and baseball may be the game everyone knows and loves to watch or play but there are a number of sports which are unpopular. Today I'm going to discuss a well-known game but has lost its recognition over the decade. One of the most popular traditional game that has been played by almost a number of children in their school life is Kho-Kho. This traditional Indian sport is more than a game. The game taught the players co-operation, speed, quick-thinking. The Kho-Kho play field has two poles at either sides. There are two teams 12 in each, of which one is the chaser and the other are runner. The chasing team sits or kneels in the middle of the court in a row. Each player sitting next to the other will face the opposite direction. The chasers should end in the quickest time possible. The chaser will touch the nearest possible player on his/her back and say ‘Kho’ to give him a chance to chase. The team that takes the shortest amount of time to touch the player chased, is adjudged as the winner. The sport has allowed the players to grow physically and mentally. Teamwork, leadership is learned naturally by participating in games. Kho-Kho has been played by juniors and seniors of both genders in many parts of India. Despite being popular in the past decade, it has not been regular game in schools nowadays. The popularity of other games like cricket, kabaddi, basketball has suppressed the interest among youngsters. To conclude, schools can start creating an awareness program about the game and why it is important. Furthermore, The National Sports Authority can take necessary actions by encouraging job opportunities for the skilled players in sports quota. Such motivational steps will definitely promote the sport among the youngsters.
