Individuals of both gender are often perceived as exhibiting different attributes in terms of their abilities. Although some people opine that it is fair to use sex as a criteria for employment purposes, I disagree with this notion reason being that individuals have the right to choose their desired occupation and this will be further discussed in this essay. On the one hand, there are some reasons why it is just to exclude people from certain jobs because of their gender. Firstly, the perception of the society could be an issue. Despite the fact we live in a modern society, it still disapproves of individuals who work in certain professions. For instance, the people will disregard a woman as a bricklayer and also a male working as a beautician may be seen as too feminine. Secondly, physical strength is another reason. Some females may be unable to work in labour intensive organizations which requires certain manpower and skills. For example, a job that requires lifting of heavy machines will not be suitable for a lady. On the other hand, despite the minor benefits associated with using sex as a criteria. I believe it is unhealthy to deny people from job opportunities because of their gender. One major reason is that it may affect the economy. When females are excluded from certain jobs, it results in reduced productivity and puts a strain on the economy. In the case of a nation whereby only a particular gender is allowed to work, such people may become over burdened with the workload making them unable to meet up with demand consequently resulting to decreased output. Another reason is that it is against human right. Everyone has the right of choice to decide on the career path to follow, and will ultimately prosper when they feel fulfilled with their decision. Furthermore, it is unfair to discriminate people because of their gender. To sum up, the perception of the society and physical strength could be points why individuals feel it is fair to deny people of jobs because of sex. Nevertheless, I believe it is unfair to refuse men and women employment because everyone has the right of choice and working individuals ensures a productive and vast economy. Therefore, people should be encouraged and not discriminated based on gender to ensure a healthy environment.
