WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF GAP YEAR?

In some countries, working or travelling for a year before pursuing university studies is becoming increasingly popular among young students after completing their high school studies. On the one hand, students who decided to work or travel after completing their school can gain valuable work experience, develop their indepedence and self-confidence which play a significant role in professional life. More over, during this time, students get to know deep and pratical knowledge regarding the subjects they wish to study in the future. For instance, in the UK, students choose to do part-time jobs in subjects they wish to make career in after completing and this had a great impact on their career. On the other hand, working or traveling for a year can distract students. When they start earning money, they will care less about their education as they feel they are already making money. This means beginning one’s university program a year later and graduating a year later than one's peers, there might be some financial drawbacks. A good example of this is some scholarships don’t allow students who decided to take a year gap so those decisions can lose the scholarships as well. while it’s improve students life skills and have some real-experince, taking a break to travel or work in between high school and university can be delay academic progress by one year. Both the positives and negatives need to be considered before making a decision.
