There has been an increase in the number of people who prefer to live in a big city in the recent years. Some people prefer cities because of the employment opportunities while others come for education. There are also various cultural activities for all people in the cities. Besides all these facilities, large cities have many problems including crime, traffic and high cost of living. The most important problem of big cities is crime. Every year there are thousands of reports about theft and murder. For example, according to the recent statistics 10 thousand people were murdered in New York City last year. Because of the cosmopolitan structure of big cities, all sorts of people including criminals live in large cities. As a result of this, the rate of crime is very high in crowded cities. Another problem of large cities is traffic. Due to the high population, traffic jam occurs during rush hour, and people spend 1-2 hours commuting in cities such as Istanbul, Paris and New York. Besides, public transportation is not sufficient in these kind of cities because of overpopulation. The last problem of big cities is that the cost of living is very high. People spend a huge amount of money for housing, transportation and food. The rents are extremely high especially in cities like Istanbul. The cost of food is also very expensive compared to small villages. Thus, a person needs a lot of money in order to survive in a city. In conclusion, there are some serious problems of metropolitan cities in terms of crime, traffic and cost of living. It is true that these cities offer attractive lifestyles and opportunities to many people. However, the hidden problems should also be taken into consideration. So, if you are planning to move to a big city, think twice!
