They may need to talk to their boss or to a client while they are on the road. Another example is parents, who need to be in communication with their children. A child may have a schedule change and need a ride home. Parents may need to let their child know that they will arrive home a little bit late. These are just some examples of reasons why people may need to use phones while driving. They are all important. Using a cell phone while driving does not have to be dangerous. There are devices that make cell phone use less distracting. Drivers can use earphones, for example, so that they don't have to hold the phone and can keep both hands on the steering wheel. Devices make holding and looking at the phone unnecessary. Then, talking on a cell phone is no more distracting than talking to a passenger in the car. Making cell phone use by drivers illegal would be unfair because many people need to use their phones while in the car. As long as drivers use certain devices, cell phone use is not distracting and not dangerous.
