Nowadays, customers can experience the nourishment from many regions in their hometown, although it takes few days even a few weeks for food transportation from farmland to the market. Though this trend has some benefits as it widens our freedom as consumers, its effects are largely negative.
With a good transportation system, customers can buy everything if they want. It means if their country cannot grow this food, it can be imported. It ensures that people can eat many types of foreign fruit or vegetable or other food items from local markets where they import food. Thanks to the international market, farmers can approach many foreign markets with their good quality food.
The transportation of food, however, needs a ton of fuel which releases a lot of CO2, which leads to air pollution. This is one of the causes of environmental problems in the world. Moreover, they often use chemicals in order to preserve the freshness of food during transportation time. It is difficult to say "NO" whether these chemicals affect our health. After importing, local sellers also preserve them for several days by the air conditioner or any chemicals (if any). This makes it less nutritious and less fresh than local food with short-time delivery.
In conclusion, I believe that food traveling long-distance is undesirable and have more negative consequences compare with the positive side. It leads chemically preserved fruits and vegetables that are being imported is not a healthy choice at all as well as increasing environmental problems.
