These days, a vast number of people can work at home thanks to technological advances such as the Internet and computers and do not have to visit a far place for work. Workers can readily balance between work and private life, and a decrease in opportunities to drive for work positively influences the environment. Alternatively, tourism might fall into a decline, and communicating over a screen is less efficient to negotiate than talking directly. First of all, working from home helps employees to keep a work-life balance because they can spend more time with their families. A few decades ago, breadwinners of families used to leave in the early morning and go home late, then it was not enough for them to communicate with their families. However, it becomes easier for them to have adequate time with their families and do house chores. Also, the shorter workers drive, the less the amount of exhaust gas their cars emit. People avoid transportation to remote places by car, which causes global warming and pollution. On the other hand, if the number of business trips declines, tourism might be stagnant and local people living in tourist places cannot earn sufficient income. On business trips, people usually purchase souvenirs and do sightseeing after work, but the spread of remote work would make it deserted. Furthermore, online communication sometimes cannot change human impressions. Even if employees have negotiating skills, they might look gloomy on the screen and then cannot reach a contract in the worst case. In conclusion, remote works have some pros in aspects of work-life balance and the environment although there are worries about the stagnation of tourism and the difference in impression between face-to-face and online.
