The number of students opting to study abroad as a part of their degrees has been rising. Although studying abroad comes at the cost of staying away from your family and facing cultural and linguistic challenges, it tremendously leads to students’ holistic growth, given the diverse learning environment they get to experience. In my opinion, the benefits of studying abroad certainly outweigh the challenges that students face. The biggest advantage of studying abroad is that students get to learn in a classroom full of people from different backgrounds which leads to better professional development. This is primarily because different cultures and diversity help students learn about different perspectives and various trends followed worldwide. For instance, a class of Masters of Business Administration (MBA) students in a foreign country can help students learn about diverse market trends followed in different countries, thereby helping them to develop a wider outlook that would assist them in the future while marketing any product or service. Therefore, studying abroad in a diverse background assists your growth multifold. The main challenge that students face while studying in a foreign country is longing for their family. Staying away from family can often lead to a feeling of loneliness especially, in a foreign land and unknown environment. For example, many brilliant students fail to perform well in a foreign university because of the mental health challenges they face, namely, depression. Thus, not having their dear ones around them could affect their studies. To conclude, overseas university education has become the preferred norm by students. Despite having to battle the feeling of loneliness, studying abroad can help students exponentially grow in their careers owing to the holistic development during their course of study. In my opinion, the advantage of studying in a diverse classroom leading to a better learning experience outweighs the issue of feeling alone.
