The line graph compares the number of older adults who are more than 65 years old in three modern countries, including Japan, Sweden, and USA, over a century and projections for the future. oeK
Overall, it is quite clear that, the whole population in all countries will be older in the near future. Moreover, although USA had the lowest number of adults in 1940, it will be the first most popular country with the highest senior population. Looking at the details, in 1940, Japan was the entrepreneur country with the highest proportion of geriatric with approximately 9% of population while the figure for Sweden was lower at about 7%. The figure for both of these countries rose significantly till 1995 when the proportion of adults in Sweden exceeded that of Japan and reached 20% in 2010. From this time onwards, both are predicted to experience upward trends and increase to 25% and 23% respectively in 2040. Furthermore, at the beginning of the period, just 5% of USA residents consisted of seniors. The figure then fluctuated around this number till 2000 when it saw a rapid increase to 8% in 2020. It is also predicted that the proportion will experience a sharp increase to over 25% at the end of the period.
