The internet has revolutionized our lives, especially our day-to-day activities. In this digital age, we can exchange information through websites, communicate via social media platforms, and transfer money from one country to another within a short span of time. In my opinion, this development has more advantages than disadvantages.
Our lives are easier and the information around the globe is accessible to everyone, due to the help of the internet. First and foremost, up-to-date news and latest information are widely available on the internet. As a result, people can connect without barriers through virtual meetings, online conferences and social networking sites. In addition, online banking makes it possible to utilize electronic transfers and digital card payment systems despite the long distances. As for an example, 64. 6% of US citizens use online banking and later expected to increase by 10%, according to the study from Statista. Thus, it saves time, cost efficiency in work and benefits to individuals.
On the other hand, there are a fair share of disadvantages. Due to the lack of strict cyber laws in various countries, cyber crimes impose serious threats to youngsters and adults, including cyberbullying, blackmailing, scamming and catfishing. For instance, as the research from National Cyber Security Alliance, more than 30% of underage teenagers experience the cruelly and discrimination while using the apps. Thus, these fraudulent activities and undesirable situations have negative consequences on mental health and welfare of people.
Going online has both upsides and downsides. To conclude, I believe that negative effects can be alleviated by the effective cyber laws and the children’s online activities being regularly monitored by parents to mitigate the risk of the internet.
