The implications and collateral damage of massive turism

In the last decades, massive international turism has been hugely discused as it may resent the imbalance in a society. The transformation of cities and countries is affecting our world in severe and unexpected ways and locals had their lives severely disrupted by unregulated tourist planification. On one hand, we should monitor closely the effects on sustainability. For instance, low-cost airline companies has boosted disproportionate numbers of travellers every year. Political parties and lobbyst set our own agenda and they seem to conclude that society can benefit from largest number of tourism since all the tourist are making an impact economically. However, there may be some underlying issues to tuckle: gentrification, pollution, increment of cost of living for local residents, etc. . . Huge amount of tourist flow creates significant sinergies such as lack of housing in the centre. Furthermore, there is another fenomen to be adressed. latest revelations indicate that Airbnb -and similar apps- are preventing citizens from finding permantent accomodation at a reasonable cost. Owners leaned towards a profitable short term thinking. On the other hand, there were voices advocating for tourism since the citues grows but I am reluctant to consider this option. Turns out that data shows that elevating tourism can have a different outcome. Lets check Balear Islands, for instance. The spanish government had to step in to promote tourism and GDP were decreased after 20 years. In conclusion, hitting uncontroled records in tourism will bring profit for the few and problematic roots for the many.
