In addition, apart from a short period, Malaysia was the country with the biggest proportion of citizens and this position will be unchanged in the future.
In 1970, 30% of the population lived in Philippines, which was followed by Malaysia at 30% and this figure was nearly 20% and 10% more than that of in Indonesia and Thailand, respectively. Over the next several years, the proportion of citizens increased to 43% in 1990 and then dramatically reached over 70% in 2020. This figure is projected to stand at 80% in 2040, which is by far more than others. However, this proportion saw the slower rate in Philippines increasing to over 40% and standing at 50% in 2040.
