It is clear that the proportion of the population aged 65 increased in each country over the period shown. Overall, a much larger percentage of Japaneses and Swedes had increasing age in comparison with Americans, and Japan experienced the fastest growth in population age.
In the year 1940, the proportion of people age in the USA was about 9%. The figures for Sweden and Japan were lower at about 7% and 5% respectively. In 2000, population age in both the USA and Sweden rose to around 15% of the population, while, the figure for Japan reached just over 4%.
In the year 2040, the percentage of people age was the highest in Japan. Almost, 30% of Japaneses population aged, compared to about 25% of Swedes and only 23% of Americans.
