Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. Qd1bX
Since many food and drink products contain a huge proportion of sugar, which is apparently unhealthy, it is argued that rising the sugary products prices will discourage people from consuming them. Based on the consumers’ nature, they tend to buy commodities of lower prices in order to save money. In addition, they usually have some budgetary constraints. That is why, making sugary products more expensive can be effective in encouraging people to consume less sugar, from my own perspective. First of all, consumers are always willing to purchase goods of lower prices rather than other goods of higher prices. Even though people sometimes can afford the expensive goods, they prefer to increase their savings by purchasing the less expensive ones. For example, if a consumer is facing two bottles of orange juice, one of them contains a high percentage of sugar and is expensive, while the other one contains a lower proportion of juice and is less expensive, in this case, the consumer will definitely choose the less expensive one. By applying this approach on all sugary products, discouraging people from consuming them can be achieved. Consumers always tend to buy commodities that are feasible for them due to many constraints, the most important one of them is the budgetary constraint. For example, when a consumer that has restrictions due to a low and limited income finds out that the sugary products they used to consume have become over-priced, they will immediately look for another alternatives for those products in order not to exceed their budget limit. This example can demonstrate how rising the prices of the products that have high amounts of sugar can be effective in keeping people away from using huge amounts of sugar. In conclusion, increasing the prices of the goods that have significant percentages of sugar and cause severe problems to the health can prove remarkable success in encourging and helping consumers to consume less of those products.
