Stressful parent-child relationship.
Stressful parent-child relationship. o1EOq
There are numerous causes of stressful parent-child relationships, but two of them stand out: parents’ misuse of authority and peer pressure on teens. One of the main causes of the tense relationship between parents and children is parents’ abuse of power over teens. For instance, if parents notice their child is changing and they don’t like it, then they will give criticisms to help their children better. However, they are unaware that this will lead to the relationship between the two becoming worse. Furthermore, parents also decide what their adolescent children should and should not do. As the result, children are unable to make their own decisions for their life or express their opinion on the matter of things. Another cause that results in family relationship stress is the pressure that children have to suffer at their age. Adolescents' behaviors, moods, and habits are influenced by negative peers, bringing about the changing atmosphere in their family. For example, some teenagers may choose to try things they would not normally be interested in to gain approval from their peers, such as drinking, smoking, or using drugs, or even breaking rules that their parents have set for them. As a consequence of their changing behaviors and attitudes, their parents will be worried and be concerned about what they will try next, and then results in quarrels and arguments between two generations. To conclude, parents and their children should listen to each other and cope with problems together to have a healthy relationship.
