I am grateful for getting such a great chance to describe myself through this essay. In this essay, I would like to share about myself including about my family, educational background, jobs I have done, the way of supporting myself and from my family and then about how I came to be where I am now if I have left myanmar.
Firstly, my name is Zar Chi Lin, 20 years old and the youngest child in my family. I have one elder brother and one elder sister. My father is from Landkho township, in the Shan State of eastern Burma and my mother is from Bokpyin township of Kawthaung District so we lived in both of the two town when I was young. But after my father retired from his job, there was no one in my family who got income and for this reason, my parents decided to do their own business for us to live and also to support my grandparents. So, they moved to Shwe Pay Village, Myeik, Myanmar, where we currently live and started running a small grocery as a family business. Unfortunately, my parents got a lot of debts instead of income because of an excess of expenditure over income. My parents had struggled a lot of difficulties till we became adult. As I have witnessed the hardships of my parents during these years, I became more mature than people of my ages.
I always wanted to be outstanding student when I was young so I concentrated a lot on my studying. As a result, I passed the matriculation exam in 2017 with 4 distinctions, a total score of 482 marks from Kan Zun Ahin Private High School, Myeik, Myanmar. And I studied at the Yangon University of Economics(Hlaing) majoring in Development Studies with partial scholarship that was awarded to the students with great results in Great-10 so my parents didn’t need to support much to me. During the two years of study, I did research proposal about sustainable development goals for our country with my friends and also did volunteer at job fair which was held in my university. And I also involved in many charity programs to support the people like me who need financial and mental aid. Besides, I did online shop and part-time job to make money and during long school holidays, I worked at our shop and also sold the products from our shop through online so I can make money more for my parents. Unfortunately, Covid -19 appeared and my learning stopped. My family business also declined.
However, I didn’t stop my learning and attended research training, I founded Mediskilltion Organization with my teammates who did this project with me and we tried our best to promote about meditation habits to public. I also have been working at Serenity Counseling Service and now we are doing a project in collaboration with ActionAid Myanmar to share mental health awareness to the public. I got great experiences and lovely teammates from all of my jobs. I like to work with them but I shouldn’t be like that always. I should make changes and learn new things that will benefit my country. So I decided to study abroad and found Child’s Dream Scholarship which meets all of my needs. So I started trying to collect the documents requested for scholarship application and researched about the university I want to attend. As I didn’t have any English Proficiency Certificate, I took IELTS exam immediately just after studying it about one month. And I studied a lot to sit university entrance exam so that I can get acceptance from the university I want to attend. Actually, I really need this scholarship for my studying so I have tried that much. I chose to study abroad but my parents can’t support me at all as they still have their problems and I understand their situation. So, I am trying my best to get scholarship and so if I were there studying abroad, I came there because of getting the scholarship and the acceptance letter from the university I applied. All the facts that I mentioned above are all about myself and my life. That’s all. Thank you.
