It is a common belief that consuming foreign agricultural goods is significantly beneficial. However, there is a more persuasive argument that citizens should support the local farmers because doing so can strengthen the domestic economy. Many people think that by purchasing imported agricultural commodities, individuals can taste various types of products. When buying some imported goods that are not available locally, consumer’s choices are more varied daily. Moreover, these products are cultivated in balanced weather conditions and automated harvest, which gain more indigenous customer’s faith. For instance, Vietnamese governments have been importing kiwifruit into national supermarkets so residents can experience a fruit that is not grown in the country. I support the idea that buying domestic commodities can help sustain the local economy as well as provide jobs and incomes for farmers and other workers. Thus, several imported products are less expensive than the domestic ones. As a result, regional producers’ costs cannot match the flow which leads to their business risks. Likewise, the market price volatility is worsened by the presence of intermediary purchasers who take advantage of farmers’ vulnerability to dictate prices. In addition, using domestic agricultural products can help support sustainable farming practices that are better for the environment. To cite an example, buying locally grown produce reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting food long distances. To sum up, while it is apparent that purchasing external goods is profitable for many buyers, it is undeniable that supporting the internal growers and other labourers is an indispensable response.
