Some people think that exams are a good way of assessing a student’s level. Other people believe that they put unnecessary pressure on young learners and tell us very little about their actual ability. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion

People vary in their views as regard to weather exams a good way to measure students’ ability and level of learning or not. Although, some believe that determining the knowledge of students by exams is a appropriate way, I support the opinion of those who think that exams can not show the true potential and knowledge of the learners, because, the atmosphere can create unwanted pressure. On the one hand, one group of people support a view that there is a chance to check the scholars’ true potential by examinations for several reasons. Firstly, it is a good approach to find out within a fixed time what they understood in class during their academic year. For example, let’s take english as a second language, the test in final or mid-term exams may help to know the level of learners’ grammar and vocabulary knowledge, because the skill of memorizing is checked here. Moreover, there is often an opportunity to monitor the students during the proses of examination. Thus, exams are appropriate when used to asses memorizing talent of learners. However, I support the view that examination is ineffective when used to measure the ability of each student deeply. There are several reasons for this. First and foremost reason is cheating on exams has a tendency nowadays. In other words, the student who is not good at any subject can just copy paste from some sources and get a good mark, as a result, there is no any idea to confirm weather or not the answer on the exams are really from the student so the mark may be unfair. Secondly, memorizing is not a good way to check the true knowledge and understanding of the learners. For instance, the student probably learn by heart all answers and without any understanding the materials may get a good score, however, it is often bad for future life and career. Therefore, exams are not suitable when it comes check the deep comprehension of students. To sum up, even though people hold variety opinions about topic, I would agree with those who think that examinations can not perform the actual knowledge. As exams are more about memorizing so without knowing the materials perfectly learners may get a high score, which is unfair.
