The Orion House is defined by its sense of simplicity; both as an architectural element and an attitude of being shaped within its physical environment. The house is located among the olive trees near the quiet gulf which is an hour away from the city center.
The main idea is making the olive trees in the site, as a part of the design without damaging any of them. The house is shaped around the main tree, relatively in the center of the site which provides sun shading for the terrace all day long.
As a natural continuation of this design choice; all the living spaces, such as living area, kitchen and dining area, daily circulation route are defined around the terrace and face away from the roads and other buildings for privacy. Living area, kitchen and a guest room are planned in 90 sqm on the ground floor. On the first floor, 2 bedrooms and study area on the circulation line are planned with a bright atrium.
Construction budget of the client, around €60. 000, is restrictive for the design. Nevertheless, as architects, it is always considered important to provide a life in an atmosphere that they always dream about without compromising design. Material selection has to be made very selective. In all-day spaces on the ground floor, a local masonry stone wall is preferred for warmer atmosphere. Upper floor facade is designed with the technique of shou sugi ban. This construction technique not only minimize maintenance effort but also provides appreciable thermal insulation.
The landscape is designed simple considering maintenance with gravel and plants that don’t require special care and suitable with existing trees in the field.
