The magnitude of privatisation is increasing around the world. In many countries, governments are turning over to private managers control of institutions from transport to sanatoriums, from education to household utilities. This shift from public to private management produced a panoply of significant improvements in boosting the efficiency and quality of services. Privatisation is not a new concept; it began before the 20th century when Ancient Greece privatised almost every sector. It has shown various social and economic impacts on the countries. Privatisation proved to be a panacea for the government of many countries with their debt. Therefore, many developing countries adopted it to reduce the burden of the government. However, there can be many reasons behind privatisation such as it can help the government in saving money. Private owners can make a huge profit by running the sectors according to their will. Another reason can be the enhanced quality of products. For example, students in private schools seem to achieve better learning outcomes than their counterparts in government schools. Similarly, private sanatoriums provide better health facilities compared to government hospitals. Although privatisation has improved the standard and quality of services, at the same time it has also increased societal inequalities. Due to the effect of privatisation, the rich get richer while the condition of the poor is becoming worse. To sum up, though privatisation has better quality impacts but if we want universal facilities for all then the state probably has to be involved in some way. If we abandoned state responsibilities altogether and moved to a purely independent private system based on fees then millions of children would get no education at all because millions of parents lack the means to pay fees. After all, they are too poor. So, to bridge the gap in the provision of standardised opportunities for all, the government should play a central role in making strategic plans for its nation.
