Research into new types of medicine and treatments are essential for improve health and deal with diseases. Who do you think should fund these researches: private companies, individuals or governments? 52G5e
Researching into new drugs and cures is vital for protecting people’s well-being and treating illnesses. In my opinion, governments have to fund medical research while individuals and private companies can finance these studies voluntarily.
In terms of the government, it is their duty to spend money on these medical studies. As a matter of fact, national authorities’ responsibility is to protect citizens’ well-being and funding research into new drugs and treatments is amongst the ways to fulfill this responsibility. Therefore, it is governments’ obligation to invest money in medical research.
Regarding individuals and private companies, there are two main reasons why they can willingly fund rather than being forced to invest money in these research. Firstly, if individuals and private companies are made to finance these studies, it can cause negative responses. Unlike the government, ordinary people as well as private businesses have no duty to maintain the public health and they already pay for taxes which are parts of the money invested in these research. Therefore, forcing citizens and private businesses to invest money in these medical studies, there will be objection and disapproval. Secondly, funding medical research voluntarily could benefit ordinary people and private companies. In fact, when citizens and private businesses willingly spend money on medical studies, they will consider this as a meaningful contribution to society, thereby enhancing companies’ image and reputation and making people feel good about themselves. Therefore, individuals and private businesses should be allowed to voluntarily fund medical research.
In conclusion, in light of the facts mentioned above, governments have to invest money in research into new medicine and treatments whilst citizens and private businesses can willingly spend money on these studies
