PRINTED BOOKS VERSUS E-BOOKS
PRINTED BOOKS VERSUS E-BOOKS Ondnk
Although many people feel that the digital era was reflected in the way people read and the necessity for printed books will eventually disappear, some people still believe in the existence of physical books in the future. In my view, e-books will not entirely replace printed books as they possess unique qualities.
On the one hand, it is undeniable fact that the 21st century is the century of technological advances, informatization as well as digitalization when everything is being digitalized step by step, and books are not the exception. Today, people do not need to go to bookstores or libraries in order to read and study because almost any information can be found online easily and cost-free. Hence, the convenience of e-books in terms of portability and price attracts many people and the number of e-readers is rising day by day which begs the question about the existence of printed books in the future.
On the other hand, those, including me, who claim the opposite promote the idea that there are several merits of traditional books which could not be replaced by electronic ones. The use of e-books puts a strain on the eyes and might eventually negatively impact one’s eyesight while printed books seem to prove the opposite. Added to this, there are bookworms who adore the smell of old paper books and the atmosphere of the library stimulates them to read more and keeps them focused. Thus, physical books will never lose their importance among some people.
In conclusion, although e-books have become prevalent because of their accessibility and affordability, I do believe that digital books will less likely be a substitute for printed books among all people because of the aforementioned reasons.
